Plein Air Workshop

A 3-day workshop at Historic French Village of Ste. Genevieve, MO

This workshop will be conducted at the Historic Village of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. This Historic French village boasts several French Colonial homes, shops and restaurants. It is a favorite tourist attraction for Missouri residents and travelers across America. It offers a perfect setting for Plein Air style painting with its colorful streets, parks, rivers and hillside landscapes. This quaint village runs along the Mississippi River, which offers a variety of beautiful scenes. Ste. Genevieve also offers some of the finest bed & breakfast accommodations in Missouri. There is also a Micro-Tel available for overnight lodging.

Following are the main areas of concentration for this workshop:

  • Introduction to Plein Air Painting
  • Visualizing and planning
  • Establishing light & shadow
  • Building/blocking the painting with color/shadow patterns
  • Filling with lights and clean colors
  • Finishing detail techniques with subtle brushwork and color variations within shapes

This will be an intense workshop that will offer you the opportunity to paint several small (8"x10" - 10"x12") paintings. You will be taught how to quickly capture the mood of a scene in a bold and direct method, creating vibrant and impressionistic landscapes and city scenes.
